DOOOOMMM!

A lot of years ago, Black Sabbath started something they really weren’t aware of their grandiosity and deepness, something which touch your feelings and make the music an important part of your life.

For some circumstances I didn’t choose, I finally went ALONE to the show at MEPHISTO, but I really recommend that. It is a way to enjoy a deep listening of the Doom Metal show, putting all the attention to the music and all the details and, in addition, connecting with deep feeling inside of you. It was the first time I went to that place in the centre of Poblenou, a strange industrial area of Barcelona. I arrived a little bit late and I can not attend to the show of Moonlop, a local act.

AUTUMNAL. They are great! I really bought the tickets to see this band from Madrid. I have “Grey Universe” CD from one year ago and it has been, step by step, going up in the list of my favourite releases. Their long songs have a lot of influences but they were transformed into really original creations. They have touched my soul and I finally fall into their magic universe. The show covered all my expectations. People weren’t very warm with them (we are only around one hundred people in the pub) and see the show from some distance to the scenario. Instead this, the band created a doomy atmosphere, with great performance of all the musicians. The voice of Javier was impressive and Julio and María make an incredible “duo”. I voyaged to the Grey Universe, with that melancholic cello and guitar bridges. Sadness and despair. “Today tonight” and the rest of their classics hit the audience with their strength. In addition they perform a new song that sounds really good. I hope their new work does not delays a lot of time, Autumnal we need your music!.

After half an hour, the Swedish ISOLE appears on the stage. Their coral doom is Gooooood, with intensive combination of the three voices and an accurate visual work. One of the guitar players (Crister Olson?) amuses us with all the positions a heavy-doom musician can do with his instrument. Some songs from “Throne of Void” and a lot from “Bliss of Solitude”. Intensive and professional Doom metal, good atmosphere and the main thing in my point of view, great potential. If they follow the path they have chosen I think we can see them between the great bands of the genre, without doubt. I will follow their new releases with great interest.

And finally SATURNUS. I hate myself, because I have discovered this band buying their music to listen to this show. I though I was like the Encyclopedia Metallicus but I haven’t listen to SATURNUS. And that was a big fault for a Doom addict because they are really one of the big bands of the style. I was delighted!. People wait for them and answer to the band with a lot of emotion, headbanging, clapping and supporting. Their perfect combination of slow parts, melodic bridges, guttural and normal voices created an incredible atmosphere. Music is feeling with SATURNUS. Incredible “Starres” “Christ Goodbye” and others I didn’t know before, but that have touched my soul by one listening. The singer was really close to the fans and the rest of the band too. One of the “doomers” near me said with great emotion: “this is incredible”, and yes it was. During these sad years with not a lot of exciting bands, discovering the old SATURNUS has been new air for me.
